Housing Authority of Williamstown (HAW)

Williamstown, Kentucky

Our Mission

The Housing Authority of Williamstown's mission is to be the area's affordable housing of choice. We provide and maintain safe, quality housing in a cost-effective manner. By partnering with others, we offer rental assistance and other related services to our community in a non-discriminatory manner.

What We Do

The Housing Authority of Williamstown (HAW) began serving the community in 1966 to provide affordable housing opportunities to serve residents of the City of Williamstown and Grant County in Kentucky. Governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, HAW strives to help individuals and families by providing affordable housing while encouraging self-sufficiency in a community setting. We provide housing for low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Our tenants represent a wide range of cultures, ages, and life stages, from young couples just starting to single parents working hard to improve the quality of life for their families.

Housing Programs

HAW provides housing opportunities through the Public Housing Program and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program, which accepts Section 8, also known as HCVs (Housing Choice Vouchers). HAW is not equipped to accommodate Emergency Housing and does not administer the Housing Choice Voucher Program or distribute vouchers. In the community, HAW administers 30 Public Housing units, which are income-based, and the eligibility guidelines are set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HAW also manages 23 Tax Credit units accepting Section 8/HCV Vouchers, which are income-restricted, and the eligibility guidelines are determined by HAW. If you would like to apply, please stop by our office for a paper application or click here to apply online.

Domestic Violence Protections

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA 2013) expands housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Changes under VAWA 2013 include extending protections to survivors of sexual assault; allowing survivors who remain in the unit to establish eligibility or find new housing when a lease is bifurcated; providing survivors with emergency transfers; and additional notification to applicants and tenants of housing rights under VAWA. While these changes substantially extend VAWA's coverage to include most affordable housing programs, they provide no protection to tenants in private market-rate housing but do apply to tenants with vouchers in private market-housing.

HAW will provide all protection under VAWA 2013 to program participants and family members of program participants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking from being evicted or terminated from housing assistance based on acts of such violence against them.

Learn more about VAWA here.

No Smoking Policy

In compliance with HUD rulings, all HAW offices and public housing properties are smoke-free. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of any HAW building.
